M3 Ch8 String Prints extra

As soon I finished my blogging I realised I hadn't blogged everything.
This photo just shows my blocks.
3.8.1 I love 'The Earth From the Air' by Yann Arthus-Bertrand.  The first photo are lines fro his photos, the second photo is from a map of my local area, where I live now and where I used to live.

3.8.2 These photos are pages in my sketch book.  The first photo uses just one print block, the second 2 and is colour washed, a busy page but I'm quite pleased with it.

M3 Ch9 Extending the Page

For some reason I found it difficult to get into this chapter, maybe because I'm keen to think about my book, certainly not because it didn't appeal.
The first photo shows simple joins.  The luggage label was expanded by folding the edge of the white paper and sticking it on.  The plain white pages were joined using selotape.  I did have fun with the fish, positioning the paper fasteners so the fish could all be seen.

Using a hole punch and sewing appealed more.  The top left was joined with wire and the right one with raffia.  I took the luggage label idea for the bottom left.
Oh no, more doilleys!  I liked using the ribbon though.

M3 Ch8 String Prints

These papers are not in activity order but have been arranged in groups.
This first group is a selection of rubbings.  All have been done using wax crayons except the greeny, brown one where I used pastel.  Most then had a colour wash, for the blue ones I used acrylic but then changed to water colour which I preferred.  I also tried different papers, tissue, tracing paper, newspaper and thin drawing paper.  Don't think I'd bother with tissue again although it can be seen through. I used a roller for the pinky ones and really like the effect of the top piece (not so sure about the colour scheme though)

I used fabric paints on this piece of old brown paper so then ironed it onto some satin. A favourite piece.

These are just 2 random pieces, I like the red acrylic on tissue but....one day I'll find a use for doilleys I like, I've so many old ones.

These pages were painted before printing. I can see possibilities in all these and especially like the brown paper which had previously been printed using metallic paints and egg yolk.
Yet another doilley!  I was quite impressed with the way the doilley pattern shows on the fabric though.  It's very subtle and doesn't show on the photo.

More papers printed with fabric paints then ironed onto fabric.  I like the way the lines on the silk paper make a background for the printed lines.
I was glad to find an old unwanted map to try.  The top left was wax crayon rubbed and I decided that because it smudged felt a colour wash would make the map disappear.  The bottom left is ironed on from paper printed with fabric paints.  I've never tried that before and can see I might use it again.  I loved the way my 2 prints joined up to make a circle but think I used the wrong colour for the wash as the print recedes more than i wanted it to.  I'm pleased that the map still shows despite the orange being rather strong.

M3 Ch7 Drawing the landscape 2 addition

This is the activity that I missed.  I'm glad I did it as extra practise helped me use the different pencils with more understanding.
